St. Paul youth among 2017 Queens Jubilee medal recipient

A young lady from St. Paul was among those recognized by the lieutenant- governor of Alberta. Hebatullah Iftikhar is from St. Paul. She was among 9 other recipients of the 2017 Queen’s Golden Jubilee Citizenship medal and Queen’s Golden Jubilee Arts medal. The award recognizes youth efforts in volunteering as well as outstanding school work.

Iftikhar had previously been awarded the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Silver Award for her work in Girl Guides in St. Paul. Each award includes a $5,000 cheque, a letter of congratulations from the minister of Culture and Tourism and a medal and letter of commendation presented by the lieutenant-governor.

“The awards recognize the many contributions that these dedicated young Albertans have made to date while encouraging their ongoing development as community and artistic leaders,” said Lieutenant- Governor Lois E. Mitchell. “I wish them well with their continued education and I look forward to seeing where their common spirit of adventure and dedication to excellence take them in the years ahead.”
