Smoky Lake gets nod in municipal excellence award

A community in the Lakeland is being celebrated by the province. Smoky Lake has been named a recipient of a 2018 Minister’s Awards for Municipal Excellence. The annual awards are presented to municipalities in the categories of partnership, innovation and safe communities.

In the case of Smoky Lake, it was their “Smoky Lake Grows Entrepreneurs” initiative aimed to help small business develop and grow in small, rural communities. The town has a contract business coach work with entrepreneurs, the chamber of commerce and Grades 7-9 students at Smoky Lake’s H.A. Kostash School and teach them about running a business.

Lethbridge, Coaldale, Drumheller and Calgary are also award recipients. This is the 17th year the awards have been handed out.
