New documentary hoping to showcase women farmers in the Lakeland

A film production company is looking to tell the story of female farmers around the Lakeland and Alberta. Lindisfarne Productions is a video production company based out of both Edmonton and Maple Ridge, B.C. Their newest production is called ‘Picture a Farmer‘. The documentary aims to focus on women in agriculture and the changing of that role over the passage of time.

Director Kelsey van Moorsel is hoping the film will show the hard work and determination that the female producers give day in and day out.

“Women have always been very involved in the farm as well. This highlights that women are taking leadership roles and managing their own operations. They’re doing some great work too.”

The film is currently in the planning stages. Van Moorsel says she’s currently working on gathering funding as well as subjects. She’s seen interest from farmers across Alberta, including one in the St. Paul area.

“We’re still looking for people who have some great stories. We want to show as wide a spectrum as possible.”

van Moorsel says anyone who would be interested in telling their story can reach out to the company via the website of the film.

As for a timeline on when you might see a local farmer on the silver screen, you might have to wait a bit. van Moorsel says filming could take place as early as this September and run into next year.
