Cold Lake Military Police hosting part of national fundraiser

Military Police in Cold Lake are getting ready for a day of golfing and poker with a twist all in support of a charity. the 10th Annual National Military Police Motorcycle Relay Ride sees MPs from across the nation gear up and ride from coast to coast in relay teams while raising money for the Military Police Fund for Blind Children. The Relay is due to hit Cold Lake on the August Long Weekend.

On August 4th the local MPs are hosting a golf tournament at the Cold Lake Golf and Winter Club, as well as a motorcycle poker run to support the cause.

1 Military Police Squadron Sergeant Mike Calleja says the poker run is always fun, putting an outdoor twist on the card game.

“It’s $30. You get a poker card and you get dinner. With that card, you’ll go to different locations around the Cold Lake area and each location you’ll grab another card to create your poker hand. At the very last spot, you reveal your hand.”

The golf tournament will feature teams of four hitting the links with the chance at some prizes along the 18 holes. Some prizes have already been donated, but the planners are graciously accepting others.

Calleja says it’s a chance to help out a charity that’s near and dear to the squadron.

“Everything is for the Military Police Fund for Blind Children. If you wish to give a gift donation, it will be given as a prize.”

Registration for both events starts at 8 am at the Cold Lake Golf and Winter Club. Calleja says to plan for a whole day, as both usually run until around 4 pm.

For more information or donations, Sergeant Calleja can be reached at 780-840-8000 extension 8188 or by email at [email protected]
