MD of Bonnyville Council is hoping a few more hands will help relieve the burden on local RCMP. Council has announced that two new support staff positions will be funded by the MD. The positions will be in both Bonnyville and Cold Lake.
MD Reeve Greg Sawchuk says a presentation from Staff Sergeants of both detachments was an eye opener for how the MD could help.
“They presented basically saying what they could use is some administration help. The members were busy with doing a lot of paperwork.”
The jobs will be hired by the municipalities themselves. The MD will provide money to both Cold Lake and Bonnyville.
Sawchuk says the money for the two positions wasn’t in the 2018 budget. He says this was still an option in planning.
“We knew there was going to be things coming in regards to crime prevention. We just alotted it towards this instead of something else.”
Sawchuk isn’t sure when the positions will be filled but says by the sounds of it the jobs should be posted soon.
