Crane Lake Ecofest set to be a great day for kids and parents

A new event hosted at Crane Lake is hoping to start a younger generation on the path to keeping lakes healthy and happy. The MD of Bonnyville is presenting the Crane Lake Ecofest on July 8th. The day will give kids a chance to learn, build and have fun.

Environmental Coordinator for the MD Katlyn Macdonald says the idea for the day comes from the Crane Lake Restoration and Preservation Program she has been working on.

“Primarily, this program has been directed at adults and people who live around the lake. We figured this would be a cool way to get future generations to learn about whats going on around the lake and how they impact it too.”

The day runs from 1 until 4 pm at the west campground beach. No registration is required. The first 75 kids who show up will get to build a birdhouse as well as learn about how to keep the lake healthy, see a variety of critters and more.

Macdonald says the day is free for both kids and parents.

“There’s no cost for anybody to come out. We do ask the parents to stick around for the event. They could probably learn a thing or two as well.”

Macdonald says anyone looking for more information can get a hold of her by calling 780-826-3171 ext. 9253 or by shooting her an email at [email protected]
