Mounties in Cold Lake arrest man after standoff

Police in Cold Lake are saying a standoff after a reported stabbing has resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old man. Mounties say on June 13th at around 5:45 pm they were called out to Cold Lake North after a woman reported being assaulted. Responding officers found a neighbour has also been seriously wounded trying to help the woman.

A 25 year old from Cold Lake then reportedly began a three hour standoff with police, where mounties say he uttered threats to police and others. RCMP ended the standoff and took the suspect into custody.

The good samaritan neighbour was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He underwent emergency surgery and is currently in hospital.

Police are laying multiple charges on the suspect including aggravated assault and possession of a deadly weapon. He’ll see Cold Lake Provincial Court on July 25th.
