Kinosoo ridge revamp could mean big things for Lakeland

If everything goes right, you may be able to enjoy Kinosoo Ridge Resort every week of the year. That’s the vision planners and developers working with the MD of Bonnyville and the City of Cold Lake have. A pair of open houses were recently hosted with a variety of options for different activities and build plans that would turn the resort into a year-round destination for fun seekers.

Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland has been given the scoop on a couple of ideas. So far he’s been impressed with the way plans are shaping up.

“The vision at the ski hill to make it an all-season resort is fantastic. It’s just going to be another piece of the puzzle to make people want to come to Cold Lake as a tourist and also to want to live.”

Current Manager of Kinosoo Ridge Ski Resort and Cold Lake City councillor Jurgen Grau was among those presenting ideas to the public. Visitors to the ridge in the future could one day see the likes of hiking trails, new camping spots, a cable wakeboarding spot and more.

Mayor Copeland says sprucing up the resort will really give the community a leg up when it comes to tourist bucks.

“You need these kinds of added attractions in today’s markets. We’re trying to compete with Kananaskis and Banff. You really need something extra.”

The plan for the resort is still in the consultation process. MD officials are saying they will meet with the Government of Alberta and communities that would be affected by the project. There is no timeline yet on when the project will be completed.
