A scam making its way across the Lakeland has fire officials from the area warning the public. The heads-up comes after Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority officials heard from residents who had received phone calls regarding donations to local fire halls. BRFA is reminding the public that any fundraising efforts on their part are done face-to-face.
In all cases, the caller asked for cash donations over the phone. BRFA and EMS have never done any fundraising through this method. The scam has been used across Alberta before, with other stations reporting similar cases.
