New firehalls coming for Fort Kent and Ardmore

MD Council is putting money towards two new fire halls in the Lakeland. In a decision at yesterdays council meeting, around $130,000 will be used to help get the buildings completed in both Fort Kent and Ardmore. Council is drawing the money from reserves. They made a motion to allow up to $250,000 to be used from that fund should the projects need it.

The halls were not a factor in the 2018 MD of Bonnyville budget. Council considers them an “accelerated project”. Some of the money will be used in purchasing plots of land in the communities, currently owned by Northeast Muni-Corr Ltd.

It’s expected that the fire halls will have the same design features as the new La Corey station, which opened up in 2016. There is no word yet on how long the project may take or an opening date for the halls.
