Cold Lake Mayor part of CAPP methane talks

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers held a discussion last Wednesday in Bonnyville that addressed methane emissions in the oil and gas sector. The meeting, held at the Neighbourhood Inn hotel and hosted by the Bonnyville Chamber of Commerce, saw officials from multiple oil and gas companies as well as local politicians.

City of Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland was also in attendance. He says the meetings brought forth some eye-opening talks about regulations in a massive industry in the Lakeland.

“For some of the producers in our area, the new regulations being proposed by the province could have a huge impact to their viability.”

The talks come after a winter meeting was hosted by the association. Mayor Copeland says producers in the area are feeling overwhelmed by new methane regulations the province has put forward, including a 45% cut by 2025. He says CAPP had a message for those who left the meeting feeling like their voice had not been heard.

“They encouraged people to talk to their MLA, talk to their provincial representative. We have got show some support for the oil industry and I think that that is what CAPP is trying to reach out to the community.”

CAPP brands themselves as “the voice of Canada’s upstream oil and natural gas industry.”
