St. Paul Town Council has put the kibosh on talks that the ice at the Cap Arena will be in early. Council had heard a suggestion from the recreation board to the council on the idea of putting ice in earlier to allow hockey and ice skating in the August-September months. A lengthy debate had town council weighing the pros and cons of the idea.
Concerns were raised about the facilities ice plant and its ability to handle use during a warmer time of the year. Should the plant break down, a new one would cost about half a million dollars. It was decided to keep the ice scheduled as is, usually being started after Thanksgiving.
