Wild Fire forces an evacuation of Elizabeth Metis Settlement

A wild fire near the Elizabeth Metis Settlement on Saturday night saw residents evacuated from their homes as crew battled the blaze. Officials from the Settlement are saying at around 4:05 pm Saturday afternoon a state of emergency was declared.

A number of residents were evacuated to the community hall. RCMP were also on site to assist with getting people to safety as a variety of local firefighters arrived to try to stop the flames. Reports are saying today that firefighter have contained the fire and are monitoring it closely. Officials are also saying the blaze may have moved into parts of Saskatchewan as well.
