Cold Lake Mounties say keep your wallets close when shopping

Cold Lake RCMP are reminding you to keep your wallets and personal items close while shopping after dealing with a pair of stolen purse cases. Police are saying on May 6th at 3:30 pm they were called out to the No Frills after a woman reported her purse was stolen out of her cart while shopping. Mounties are saying the womans credit card ended up being used at a convenience store in town.

Police say the next day at noon they were called out again, this time it was a wallet stolen while the victim was shopping in Walmart. The victims credit cards were again used at a local convenience store. Police were able to get a good look at the suspect using the stores security camera footage.

Cold Lake RCMP Staff Sergeant Jeremie Landry says police believes there’s only one suspect in both cases of theft.

“RCMP identified the suspect in this case and have applied for a warrant for her arrest.”

SSGT. Landry says he doesn’t believe theft like this is getting worse in the community. He says a little vigilance can go a long way in making sure you’re not a victim.

“If you are going to go a distance away from your cart, take your belongings with you and then return them to your cart.”

RCMP expect to lay charges of theft and fraudulent use of a credit card once the warrant is approved.
