Child Abuse Investigation Results in Charges.

On December 11, 2013, Cold Lake RCMP responded to a complaint of child abuse in the community.

Further investigation found a two-year-old girl was suffering from injuries that occurred approximately one week prior. The child was transported by air ambulance from Cold Lake to a hospital in Edmonton, where she remains in stable condition.

The child’s father, a 30-year-old man from Cold Lake, was charged with Assault, Failing to Provide the Necessities of Life and Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm. He has been released from police custody with various conditions and is to have no contact with his daughter.

The father’s girlfriend, a 21-year-old woman from Cold Lake, was charged with Aggravated Assault, Failing to Provide the Necessities of Life and Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm. She has been released from police custody with various conditions, is to have no contact with the victim and is not to have any unsupervised access to children under 18 years of age.

Both individuals are scheduled to make a court appearance in Cold Lake Provincial Court on January 8, 2014.
