Saddle Lake Man marching on to Humboldt

A man with roots in the Lakeland is attempting a huge walk for a bigger cause. Rance Cardinal was born in Saddle Lake but now calls Sioux Lookout, Ontario home. He has been walking the almost 1,200 km distance between Sioux Lookout to Humboldt, Saskatchewan for the last 20 days, raising support and awareness after 16 Humboldt Broncos players and staff were killed in a bus accident last April.

Cardinal is a former player with the Saddle Lake Warriors. He says the idea for the walk came after he was shown on the Jumbotron at the Winnipeg Jets hockey game the night after the crash. He was shown holding a sign with the words ” Humboldt Strong” written on it. He wears the sign around his neck as his completes about 40 to 50 km a day. Cardinal credits his time on the Bold Eagle course at CFB Wainwright with his mental and spiritual toughness.

His journey is being documented through Facebook.  The page features photo and video updates as well as a way to give words of encouragement.  Cardinal is currently in Winnipeg and will continue on his journey until he reaches the Humboldt arena.
