Bonnyville passes tax increase after raising mill rates

A balanced budget means homeowners in the town of Bonnyville may see an increase in their taxes. Bonnyville town council has passed a two percent tax increase in the community after tax assessments dropped about eight percent last year. Council says the residential mill rate has increased by .81789 mills when it comes to residential properties while the commercial mill rate jumped up 1.81859 mills.

the average homeowner in Bonnyville is expected to see their tax bill increase by $50 to $60. Under the new Municipal Government Act linear and designated industrial properties will have a new tax to pay that will end up going to the province. The town is expecting to take in around $7.8 million dollars in taxes for 2018.
