No injuries in fire in Elk Point, investigation continues

Fire crews in Elk Point are still trying to figure out what caused a blaze in a townhouse complex in the town. Officials are saying the fire started Friday afternoon and warm temperatures with added wind made battling the blaze a challenge.

Elk Point Deputy Fire Chief Peter Hewitt says the scene required help from surrounding communities to get under control.

“(We) contacted Bonnyville dispatch, and dispatched two units from St. Paul to help with the blaze here in town.”

Fire crews were able to to get control of the blaze but most of the townhouses were destroyed. Hewitt says the two buildings still standing today are damaged beyond repair.
