Bonnyville remembers those killed in workplace accidents

The Town of Bonnyville will be joining in with communities around Canada in remembering those lost to workplace accidents and illness. The public is invited to attend a Day of Mourning ceremony tomorrow at 10:30 am at the Shaw House hosted by the Bonnyville Chamber of Commerce and Alberta Construction Safety Association. The event will recognize those lost and re-enforce the need to continue to make the workplace safe.

The Day of Mourning was originally started as Worker’s Memorial Day in 1984 in Sudbury, ON, and was declared a day of remembrance by the Canadian Labour Congress the next year. Alberta had 166 deaths related to workplace injury and illness in 2017. Some more info on the day can be found by clicking here.
