Vera M Walsh Phys. Ed Teacher Nicolas Brown Nominated for Provincial Award

Nick Brown, the phys ed teacher at Vera M Walsh School in Lac La Biche has been nominated by The Northern Lights School Board for the Edwin Parr Award.

Nicole Garner, communications officer for the Northern Lights School Division (NLSD) explains the award is “for outstanding first year teachers.” Each year NLSD asks the division’s schools to nominate a teacher from each school who the school believes deserves recognition. The division then reviews the nominates and pick two candidates. This year, Nicolas Brown the Physical Education teacher at Vera M. Walsh in Lac La Biche and Bethany Olson a Grade 6 teacher at H.E. Bourgoin Middle School in Bonnyville were the two top candidates.

Garner says “all of our first year teachers are outstanding and it was a very tough decision by in the end the board decided to nominate Nick.” Brown will now move onto the zone selection process.

NLSD is in zone 1-2 of the province which is able to nominate two candidates, Nicolas Brown being one of the two, who are reviewed and if successful move onto the provincial level of the awards selection. The Alberta School Board Association will announce the winner of the award at their Fall Annual General Meeting.
