Lac La Biche County hosting info session on Clubroot/Wood ash

The county of Lac La Biche is hoping that a little education can go a long way in eradicating Clubroot in the area. They are hosting a pair of seminars in Lac La Biche and Plamondon that will teach growers a little bit about the harmful disease that causes the roots of some crops to rot and the plant to die.

Molly Syten is the Manager of Environmental Services with Lac La Biche County. She says the night is a great way for the public to learn how to fight back against the disease.

“We’re gonna be having a couple of speakers to educate people on Clubroot, and how wood ash can be used in the control process as well. We’ll cover Clubroot biology, measurements for prevention and what the county is working on to mitigate the disease itself.”

Syten says the disease is something to take seriously, as it is spreading across the province.

“We are one of the last, fortunately, in our area to detect it in our boundaries. To date, they have not found a solution to completely control the disease.”

The information sessions run April 23rd and 24th and are free to attend. The county is asking those interested in attending to register so they can get accurate numbers for a dinner being served. To register, call 780-623-6789.
