Volunteer week being celebrated in the Lakeland

The Lakeland is celebrating volunteer week. This week is used as a time to thank the almost 12.7 million volunteers across the country. Diahann Polege-Aulotte is Community Programmer with the FCSS. She says the day is to celebrate those that make your town a little better everyday.

“So it’s Canada wide and it’s to celebrate volunteers and what they do in every community.”

Polege-Aulotte knows some people may be on the fence about volunteering, but she has some advice for those thinking about it.

“Take a step out of your comfort zone and try it. You never know what volunteering opportunities are out there. Stretch yourself a little bit and go out and volunteer.”

To celebrate volunteering in the community,The FCSS and Lakeland United Way are teaming up for a barbecue at the Bonnyville C2 tomorrow evening from 5 pm until 7 pm. Polege-Aulotte says the fun will include bounce houses for the kids and displays and presentations about volunteering in the community. The event is free to attend.
