It certainly wasn’t the numbers Bonnyville town council wanted to hear when tax value assessors gave their report for 2017. Two officials from Accurate Assessments Group Ltd. were on hand at last town council meeting and they’re saying that residential tax values were down about eight percent in 2017. Non-residential properties, meanwhile, have dipped 11 percent from where they once were.
The two assessors say there has been a just over $100,000 decrease in assessment values, and that the town has seen a decrease ever since the “boom days” of 2014. Development permits increased last year to 164 given out. The town has remained mum on if the values will mean a decreased property tax bill for residents.
