Oilmen’s Society gearing up for more events with a cause

The Bonnyville Oilmen’s Society is excited for the days ahead. The group has been in the community since 1983, and member Ron Moser says he’s enjoyed every bit of the amount of work the group does in the community.

“We, as Oilmen, we raise money through the golf tournament, the bonspiel, We have a Lobsterfest coming up in May. We also have two hockey drafts. All this money that we are making, is filtering back in the community.”

Moser mentions a few of the projects the group has helped to fund, including helping with children’s sports, boys and girls clubs, senior care and emergency services donations. He says a DARE type program for teaching young ones the effects of drug abuse is on the clubs wish list.

“If you win three children out of five, you accomplish a goal. You have to bring it across children what drugs there is.”

Ron says the golf tournament held in June is always a favorite with locals. He says the price to play comes with a ton of fun.

“Your golf cart is paid for, your two rounds of golf is paid for. You get two meals, a big steak supper on Friday night, a roast beef dinner on Saturday night. There’s gonna be door prizes for everybody. No one is losing out of it.”

Moser says becoming a member of the society begins with reaching out to those who are already involved in the group. More information on the Bonnyville Oilmen’s Society can be found on their website or Facebook page.
