Bonnyville-Cold Lake MLA weighs in on Kinder Morgan

Bonnyville-Cold Lake MLA Scott Cyr understands the frustration he hears from the Lakeland over the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline.  The Houston-based energy giant recently announced that all non-essential spending on the project will be stopped, and has said that the whole job will be scrapped if all legal and jurisdictional challenges the project is facing aren’t taken care of by May 31.

Cyr says it’s time for B.C to start thinking about the rest  of the country.

“In January alone, we saw about 10,500 full time jobs were lost. Clearly, B.C NDP are blind to our pain and agony over here.”

A demonstration in support of the pipeline was held today at the Legislature grounds in Edmonton., hosted by a group called Rally for Resources. United Conservative leader Jason Kenney was among the speakers at the event.  Cyr says the pipeline is vital for the future of Alberta oil.

“We’ve got one market, and it’s just primarily the United States.  Until we can get to some sort of a port, it’s going to continue to have this massive spread, and we’ll never get the full value of our natural resource.”

Prime Minister Trudeau is expected to sit down with Rachel Notley and B.C Premier John Horgan to discuss ways to end the inter-provincial battle on Sunday.
