Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre takes home hardware at 2017 Inspiration awards

A Lakeland centre for women and children in crisis was honored at the 2017 Alberta Inspiration Awards. The Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre in Cold Lake took home the Leadership in Family Violence Award. Susan White is Executive Director with the Centre, she says the honor shows her group that the work they’re doing is not going unnoticed.

“First and foremost, we’re totally honored to be nominated and thrilled to have won. Really it just reinforces that we’re going in the right direction.”

White says the award is a great way the Alberta government recognizes groups working against bullying and family and sexual violence in the province, and reminds those who may be silently struggling that help is always just a call away.

“We have a community support office, both in Cold Lake and Bonnyville. They work with families who don’t need residential support. They work with men, they work with women, with children.”

White says the award was originally scheduled to be handed over in a ceremony in November, but a snow storm cancelled the event. The group picked up their award at a ceremony held last Wednesday in Edmonton. More information on the centre can be found by clicking here.
