Alberta Health Services is asking anyone who may have used KCN Contracting LTD, a water hauler operating under permit from AHS, to call AHS Environmental Public Health after it was found to be obtaining water from a non-potable source. The water hauler is based out of the Kehewin Cree Nation.

AHS issued a Closure Order for KCN Contracting LTD on March 8 for obtaining and delivering water from a source that is not considered potable. Non-potable water may contain bacteria and/or viruses that could cause illness.

Health Services is advising that the operator may have delivered to the communities of St. Paul, Smoky Lake, Bonnyville, Cold Lake and surrounding areas. Their investigation has not revealed a complete list of this water hauler’s clientele. AHS is issuing a health advisory as a means of alerting anyone who received water from the hauler, at any point in time, to contact AHS Environmental Public Health in St. Paul at 780-645-3396.

Environmental Public Health staff will advise on next steps, which may include boiling water before consumption, or cleaning instructions for water storage. The hauler has been ordered to stop delivery of non-potable water and will remain under closure order until it complies with AHS and legislative requirements.
