Bonnyville home to provincial AA tournament

Bonnyville will play host to Alberta’s best in Senior AA hockey on March 22nd to the 25th. The C2 will host six teams from three different leagues in a weekend tournament to determine who is the best in the Senior AA level of Alberta hockey. Dennis Germain is the host committee chair for the tournament, he says the pitch for hosting was a great way to honor a milestone with the Bonyville Senior Pontiacs.

“Well, we put in the bid about a year ago to host the tournament. We are celebrating the 65th anniversary of the (Bonnyville Pontiacs) first game, played in 1952. We thought this would be a great way to celebrate that and bring some more hockey to Bonnyville and some more business to Bonnyville.”

Germain says the tournament should have enough hockey over the four days to keep the crowds happy.

“It encompasses three different participating leagues. The Ranchland League from southern Alberta, The North-Central Hockey League, and the Sask-Alta League which is just to the south of us. The format will be a six team tournament, with eight games spread out over the four days.”
