The M.D of Bonnyville is gearing up for the 2018 fire permit season. They’ve named their 2018 fire guardians at last Wednesdays council meeting. Among those named was Bonnyville Regional Fire Chief Brian McEvoy, who explains what the job entitles.
“The M.D appoints guardians every year, to administer the fire permit system within the M.D of Bonnyville. The permit system is administered by the Bonnyville regional fire authority. we utilize 4 guardians who issue permits for open burning and burning barrels between March 1st and October 31st.”
McEvoy says the four guardians issuing the permits have the tough job.
“The key components with those four people is to make sure that any burning that is done is done safely, and within the rules.”
When it comes to results, McEvoy is happy with what he sees.
“Utilizing the fire guardian program in the M.D over the last 20 years, we’ve reduced the incidents around wildfires significantly.”
