Education minister’s youth council looking for the right stuff

The provincial Education Minister’s youth council is taking applications from students around the province. The council allows the Alberta government the ability to get an up close and personal viewpoint on schooling from students who are currently in junior and senior high school.

Jennifer Belanger is a student in Cold Lake, she currently sits on the council. She explains a little bit about what their role is. “We bring up issues that we find in the Alberta education system. We can inform the minister how to fix those problems. What better way to find problems in the system then by asking a student who is in it.”

32 students will be chosen to sit on the 2018-2019 council. Application information and a list of requirements can be found here.

As for advice to prospective council members, Belanger says it’s all about standing up for what you believe in. “Be confident in yourself, don’t be afraid of what others will say. If you’re passionate about something, speak your mind.”
