Soldiers at 4-Wing Cold Lake are getting a crash course in survival skills as the base conducts its annual Frosted Flier exercise. From January 22nd to February 14th, pilots, air crew, and students will test their ability to survive out in the cold weather.
The exercise includes making fire, building a shelter, spending the night in it, and building a signal fire to make sure they can be found by a search and rescue crew in the air. They’ll also be taken through cold weather injuries and their treatment.
The training has been around since the 1960s and this year world renowned survival expert Mors Kochanski has returned.
