After coming up short of a sellout last year, the STARS lottery is hoping the improved economy will bring in more ticket sales. The lottery has sold out 23 of its 25 years, with a sellout bringing in around $11 million. STARS raises a total of $33 million a year.
Among this year’s grand prizes are luxury homes in Edmonton, Lethbridge and Calgary, and a $500,000 dream fund. All the funds raised go towards operations, which includes salaries for flight nurses and paramedics and helicopter fuel.
STARS averages 43 missions to the County of St. Paul a year, and five missions a day across Alberta.
