Public meeting on proposed changes to fishing rules

A public meeting is being held in the Lakeland Tuesday to discuss proposed changes to provincial fishing regulations. The government is concerned about the future of walleye and pike in Alberta lakes, particularly in the north of the province.

There are more than 20 lakes in the Northern Boreal 1 Fish Management Zone that encompasses the Lakeland that would be affected. Many of them are assessed to have a high risk northern pike populations that need catch and release regulations brought in.

That would happen as of April 1, 2018. Residents can learn more at at the meeting at Lac Bellevue Hall on Highway 881, south of St. Paul. It starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
