Feds fund St. Paul wastewater treatment plant upgrades

The Town of St. Paul is getting $5.5 million to upgrade its wastewater treatment plant. It’s one of four funded projects announced by the federal government Monday.

The plant was finished in April 2014. Federal minister of infrastructure and communities Amarjeet Sohi says the goal is to increase capacity at it and others and make sure cleaner water is released back into the environment.

“Projects like the wastewater treatment plant upgrades… will help the community better manage its wastewater while protecting regional waterways and maintaining a healthy environment. These improvements will both support future economic growth and ensure that the region remains healthy and sustainable for years to come.”

The town will be responsible for $5.62 million of the cost. The province has not chipped in.
