MD of Bonnyville council takes day-long tour of Cold Lake

MD of Bonnyville council recently spent an entire day touring facilities around the City of Cold Lake. They visited the Energy Centre, RCMP detachment, Lakeland Humane Society, fire hall, Family and Community Support Services, and the Golf and Winter Club.

“We talked about how each facility is used, the levels of funding for the facilities and how many MD residents benefit from the programs in the facilities,| says MD Reeve Greg Sawchuk. “Cold Lake Council also talked about the future expansion of such facilities as the Energy Centre and the Marina.”

The eight hour meeting was meant to be the “first step” towards increasing regional cooperation. Sawchuk says both councils were able to talk about ways to work together, and what projects should be prioritized. He adds he was most surprised by the cramped quarters in Cold Lake’s RCMP detachment.

“We talked about the need for more RCMP officers to deal with the increase in crime in the area, but one of the first priorities is to expand the detachment building to accommodate present and future members. Space is at a premium.”
