Housing starts double in Cold Lake, drop by half in MD of Bonnyville

Construction on new homes in the MD of Bonnyville dropped by half last year. According to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, there were 26 new home starts in 2017, down from 51 the year before.

All on the work started on single-family detached homes, and none on any multiple-unit buildings. Four got underway between October and December, compared to 13 in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Cold Lake saw the opposite trend. Housing starts more than doubled in 2017 from 25 to 57. Six of those were multi-family homes, when there were none the year prior.

All six began in the last quarter of the year, boosting the total for that period to 21 starts. There were seven in the same time period of 2016.
