Alberta flu cases, deaths up from last season

The number of deaths attributed to this flu season in Alberta has risen to 13. There were five more deaths in a week leading up to the latest update from Alberta Health Services.

Eight of the deaths have been reported in Calgary, three in Edmonton, and two in the South Zone. None have been reported so far in the Central or North Zone, which houses Bonnyville.

In northern Alberta, there have been 235 lab-confirmed cases of Influenza A and 24 of Influenza B. 46 people have been admitted to hospital, out of 632 province-wide. At this point last year, there had been three flu-related deaths in the province and less than 250 hospitalizations.
