RCMP take aim at large drug trafficking operation

A nearly six month investigation into drug trafficking in the Bonnyville area has led to charges against six people. Since June, officers have been looking into several suspects for a number of Criminal Code offences.

It led to search warrants at three apartments in Bonnyville and another in Cold Lake. In total, it’s estimated more than $25,000 worth of drugs was seized, along with a restricted gun, a taser, a vehicle, and $2,500 in cash. Police found 218 grams of marijuana, 158 grams of cocaine, 92 grams of magic mushrooms and nine grams of crack cocaine.

More than 70 drug, firearms, proceeds of crime and other charges have been laid against the six suspects from Bonnyville and Cold Lake. 38 year old Jusuf Izairi is facing 31 charges and 29 year old Amanda Sandfly is facing 26. The rest are against 20 year old Jason McGregor, 28, year old Nolan Youngchief, 39 year old Marcella Quinney, and a 17 year old who cannot be named.

Bonnyville RCMP say they are working with their counterparts in Cold Lake to reduce crime in the region. This investigation took “hundreds of man hours” and is believed to have disrupted a large drug trafficking operation that involved people who were also committing violent and property crimes.

“Crime has no borders,” says Bonnyville GIS Corporal Kim Hillier. “Thanks to the investigational skills of our members a significant amount of dangerous drugs won’t be sold in our community.”
