Cold Lake First Nations Getting Hook Up to New Waterline

The town of Bonnyville continues to consult with the Cold Lake First Nation regarding the new water line from Cold Lake, and is hoping to have water flowing to the reserve once the line is complete.

Mayor Gene Sobolewski and CAO Mark Power met with a delegation from the First Nation on October 26th to outline where things were in the project. However, Sobolewski noted some mixed signals from the province.

Speaking of the provincial government, he said “There seems to be a little bit of conflict in terms of they want to fund the cheapest way and they’d like us to make a tie-in basically in an area where there won’t be any existing water line on the Cold Lake First Nation.

“We’re adamant that we want to make sure that we work together and provide a benefit; as soon as that pipe is there, the valve is turned on, water flows to the Cold Lake First Nation.”
