Town of Bonnyville Looking at Cutting Back on Donations to Community Groups Next Year

Community nonprofits and organizations might have a more difficult time getting money from the Town of Bonnyville next year.

The town needs to find some cash in order to pass a balanced budget by December 31st, and part of those efforts include a proposed 55,000 dollar cut to funding for community groups and events.

Councillor Ray Prevost mentioned to council that he didn’t mind some cuts, but wanted to remind his fellow councillors that some events the town contributes to – such as the Klineman Cup golf tournament – are a huge source of revenue for some local charities.

“If you give all that up, it does affect those groups. If they don’t get those dollars, are they going to pay a visit here?”

Should the funding cuts stay for 2018, it will likely mean less sponsorships from the town as well as less tables purchased by them for galas and other fundraising events.
