54 Ave Extension Opens in Cold Lake

A road project extending 54 Avenue to connect 49 Street and 45 Street in Cold Lake South has now opened.

In the city’s transportation study, 54 Avenue east of Highway 28 was identified as an important collector road that will play an increasingly important role in moving traffic as Cold Lake South continues to grow.

“This project gives people living in Brady Heights an important new access to the downtown area,” Mayor Copeland said. “It’s a small but important stretch of road when you look at the overall vision in the transportation study. Not only will this have an immediate, positive impact in the area, but it moves us closer to that vision, and opens up new options in the area.”

The project was completed for about $1 million, roughly $500,000 under budget. To date, the first lift of asphalt has been completed, as well as the sidewalk on the south side of the road from 49 Street to 45 Street. Next year, a second lift of asphalt will be added and the north sidewalk from 47 Street to 45 Street will be built.
