Cold Lake Middle School Collects 450 Pounds of Garbage From Sandy Beach

Cold Lake Middle School students were kept busy at Sandy Beach as part of the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, collecting four hundred and fifty pounds of garbage from the area.

This is the third year the Grade 7 and 8 students have gone to the beach and while four hundred and fifty pounds of garbage may sound like a lot, it’s actually less than what they had to deal with when they started. The first clean up hauled out roughly 600 pounds of waste.

The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup began in 1994 when staff and volunteers at the Vancouver Aquarium tidied up the shoreline around Stanley Park. It’s spread out across the country from there.

About 140 students and staff were at Sandy Beach for this year’s cleanup.
