Improvements to Iron Horse Trail Suggested During Waterline Construction

The town of Bonnyville has been approached by several groups about perhaps making improvements to the Iron Horse Trail while they’re digging it up for the new water line from Cold Lake.

Although the current plan is to put the trail back into its current condition after the pipes are put in place, Mayor Gene Sobolewski and Councillor Ray Prevost sat down with a number of groups who believe it would be a great opportunity to upgrade it.

However, that is still very much only a matter of discussion. Improvements to the trail are not part of the provincial funding the town got to build the line and any such expenses would come directly out of the town’s pockets.

Progress on the water line and new water treatment plant continues. The project is expected to go to tender in the spring or summer of 2018 and construction is slated to start in the summer of 2019.
