MD’s Population Revised Down From Census, Less Provincial Funding In Store

The MD of Bonnyville has fewer people in it than Stats Canada thought from the 2016 census and has adjusted the numbers. That means less provincial funding in the coming years.

Stats Canada went through a detailed analysis of the procedures used and documents gathered from the census and ticked down the MD’s population to 12,760 from 13,575. However, the Province of Alberta uses a figure of 11,661 as they count both the Elizabeth and Fishing Lake Metis Settlements as their own areas. Thanks to this, the MD is facing about 300,000 dollars less in provincial grant funding.
