18-Year-Old Drowns Near Silver Birch Resort

An 18-year-old boy has drowned near Kikino Silver Birch Resort this past weekend during the Settlement’s Celebrations Days event.

RCMP were called to the scene on Saturday after the male was seen jumping from an inflatable raft into the lake, but not resurfacing. A search was conducted and his body was discovered around 10:30 the next morning at the bottom of the lake bed. His next of kin has been notified.

“Kikino Celebrations days is a beautiful and wonderful event to be part of in August. However this particular weekend saddened my heart with a sudden tragedy on Saturday , August 19,2017,” said Kikino Metis Settlement Chairman Floyd Thompson in a statement. “A young man 18yrs old, drowned not very far off our beach at Silver Birch Resort.

“I felt such a loss for his parents and siblings who’s hearts are broken . My prayers are with the family and I pray our Lord and Savior will wrap his arms around them and give them the strength and courage through their very troubling times.”
