4-Wing Pilots off to Romania

Five pilots from 4 Wing Cold Lake’s 409 Squadron have flown out to Romania to assist in patrolling the country’s military and train their air force.

The deployment is meant as a check on Russian activity in the Black Sea. Canadian pilots may find themselves having to escort Russian jets back to their own airspace. A total of 130 Canadians from all over the country will be in Romania as part of Operation Reassurance, which as the name might imply is meant for Canada to show its commitment to the alliance.

The British Royal Airforce has been in Romania since April and the Canadians will be relieving them.
