Great Trail Completion Parties in the Lakeland

The Great Trail (Formerly known as the Trans-Canada Trail) is nearing completion, and since the Iron Horse Trail is part of it from Waskatenau to Heinsburg, it’s time to celebrate on August 26th.

There will be two spots to do just that in the Lakeland; one in St. Paul and one in Elk Point. Volunteers will be at the the staging areas of both towns offering free hot dogs and prize draws to everyone walking along the trail.

The trail has been an ongoing project for 25 years and is planned to make it eventually possible to walk from one end of the country to the other a single continuous footpath. The trail is currently 22,000 kilometers long and about 93 percent completed. Once finished, it will be the longest trail in the world.
