Imperial Oil Gives Lakeland Catholic School District Over $22 000 in Grant Funding

The Lakeland Catholic School District is very pleased to announce that thanks to generous funding from Imperial Oil they are able to expand and offer more exciting courses that’ll give their students hands-on and state-of-the-art training and education.

Imperial Oil has granted LCSD with $22 000 in the last year, in three separate grants, one for CTS Improvements, one for French Programming, and another for the District-wide 3D Printing Program.

The first grant of $7 500 to go towards the Career & Technologies Studies space at Dr. Bernard Brosseau Middle School in Bonnyville. The money will allow the District to purchase six additional IMaxes, which CTS Developoment Coordinator with LCSD, Amanda Wildman says will “allow our students to do a variety of CTS Programming from broadcasting to photoshop to 3D printing to robotics”. Wildman notes the programming is “really hands-on and engaging” for the kids at Dr. Brosseau. LCSD is known for their innovated programming and Wildman says they try to “speak to their kids interests”.

The second grant is for $5 000 for French Enhancement at Notre Dame Elementary School in Bonnyville, which is a dual-track school offering both French & English studies. Thanks to the grant, the school was able to purchases both hard copy and digital resources to enhance their French program for each grade level, from kindergarten to grade 4. Wildman says “it’s been a tremendous blessing to be able to expand the resources within the school and not just within the school, but for the home reading program as well.”

The third grant was a District wide grant for $10 000. The money will be used to enhance the 3D Printing Program at various District schools. Wildman says this program “allows students to create a product, design it, and then actually print it using a 3D printer”. LCSD has three 3D printers throughout its district and are looking to add a forth one this fall, Wildmans says students find great satisfaction “going through the design process and creating something they’ve actually designed”.

LCSD wants to thank Imperial Oil for their generous support throughout the year, without sponsors like them many of the programming would not be available to students. Wildman notes that LCSD strives to keep students ” excited about school and excited about their learning and we (LCSD) want to spark their creativity” and that these programs allow students to do explorations and it really “enhances their creativity”.
