Haying in the 30s Raises 240K

Haying in the 30’s has done it again, raising over 240,000 dollars for local cancer patients and their families.

For those unaware, Haying in the 30’s just wrapped up its 18th year this past weekend. The event is held just outside Mallaig over two days every August long weekend. Reenacters show how farming was done back in the dirty 30’s. The event uses equipment authentic to the era and even lets event goers in on some of the activities themselves. Other events included a horse drawn parade, viewing zoo with farm animals, blacksmithing, cultivating, rope making and moose calling. Saturday night even featured a good ol’ fashioned hometown dance.

The organizing committee estimates somewhere in the range of 3,000 people attended the event. All the funds raised go towards financially supporting cancer victims in the area and their families as they go through the ordeal.
