Algae Advisory on Stoney Lake

AHS has issued a blue-green algae advisory for Stoney Lake, the fifth lake to receive such a notice this year.

Residents are advised to not eat anything but fillets from the lake west of Elk Point and not to swim in any areas where the blooms can be seen.

Those unfortunate enough to touch the algae may experience skin irritation, rash, sore throat, sore red eyes, swollen lips, fever, nausea and vomiting and/or diarrhea. Symptoms usually appear within one to three hours and resolve in one to two days. Symptoms in children are often more pronounced; however, all humans are at risk of these symptoms.
